Bumping this 77 back up again
I'd like an Auto for the 300 six if possible.
The 460 is weak, the C-6 trans is good though.
I've missed a couple of opportunities, I don't want to miss any more.
This is a 'little money' or 'no Money' operation.

Your complaining about the 460 being weak, and you want to put in a 300I6? I love the 300 as much as the next guy, but if your complaining about the 460 being weak you will be very disappointed in the 300. Pair the 300 with a torque robbing C6 (great trans btw) will make one heck of a dog out of your truck. That being said, I'll trade you a 300I6 for you 460???
I don't agree with that pair being a "dog" at all and I suspect many would feel the same as me. Many a truck came with that pair, including mine, and it has no trouble getting out of its own way.
So I'd like to trade. I want a 300Six-auto, and somebody can take this 460/C-6 for scrap metal.
I didn't make it clear at all.
I 'refreshed' the 460 and never got the oil or filter changed before some "dirt" leftover from the Re-fresh caused a low oil pressure and a knock.
That's what I men when I say "weak", it needs more serious work.
In Alaska I had four Fords (4X4's, stick shift) with the 300-Six. That Exhaust manifold cracking is an unbeatable problem, other wise that engine is unbeatable.
I know the Six had an Auto from the factory in the late 80's or so. The A4OD and later a real 4-speed auto. Even those auto's got 12 Mpg or more.
This 460/C6 combo was a 10 mpg unit. Although it'd really fly.
