Bench Seat

I have a 1966 F-100 short box 4whl drive. Would someone tell me how much seat travel, front to back the stock seat track has? We are in the process of
replacing the NP 435 tranny with a C6 tranny along with a NP 208 transfer case.
Of course the shifter handles have come into play. Unfortunately this wasn't done before the truck was totally restored, along with refurbishing the seat.

The seat in my 66 4x4 moves a little over 8" front to back. Hope that helps.

Thanks for that "bunchoftrucks". Have you possibly moved the gas tank from
behind the seat? I only have a little over 3 inches, with it behind the seat.

Removing the tank provides no additional room as the seat never touches it.

Garbz, you will have to take my word for it that my seat does hit the tank.
I have only 3 inches of travel from full forward to hitting the tank. bunchoftrucks says his seat moves 8 inches front to back. Hopefully he will come back on to tell me whether his tank has been moved. If it hasn't then I'm
stumped. As of now I am sitting way to close to the steering wheel. Thanks for your interest though.

Odds are your seat was changed to a later seat or reupholstered in the "Totally Restored Phase" that is taller in the seat area and thicker in the back. Describe the seat you have and look under it with a mirror for a metal tag. Lean the seat back forward as it may be still hog ringed to the supports.

I have two of the same cabs as you sitting out back and the stock seat no way no how will hit the tank at the full rear position.

Post up some pictures of the seat and tracks.

Garbz, do you mean if you adjust your seatback to the "maximum recline" position the springs don't hit the tank? My seat does that, the seat in the previous truck did, so I thought they all did. I adjusted the present seat so it clears the tank by a hair's breadth to avoid the squeak.

How can you tell the year from the metal tag? My seat was changed to a later year and has a metal tag. I am going to get an upholstery kit but don't know what year to order. The covers are held onto the seat with plastic channels vs hog rings. Thanks, Ed

The seat tag will have the engineering number C6T? will be for a 66 D1T? will be for a 71.
C=60s
D=70s
E=80s
F=90s

Springs hitting means there wore out.
