I'm having the well known situation with P0345, P0022
Replaced both phasers, replaced cam sensor, checked timing (properly aligned), assembled back still running rough and rattling, used 10w40 oil,
Complete rebuilt engine, we did head work new seals and springs, valves are straight I had it checked out twice for assurance. New pistons, new rings, new bearings, new oil pump and seals of course. If I disconnect cam sensor Bank 2 it works fine but still runs a little rough.
- Replaced one tensioner due to gasket wear.
- I was told to check on alternator ground (it's missing I know cause it got broken and I haven't replaced that ground that goes into the engine.)
- I also was told change oil to 5w20 and filter (Not FRAM), add some lucas and it should be the fix.
- Also told to disconnect the oil pressure sensor and it would fix the problem but it will throw a code for that.
- I haven't replaced the timing chains I feel they're a little loose but they haven't jumped the teeth, so I guess they're good.
- I saw in one thread to move a teeth on phaser giving me code bank 2 (moved one teeth back and then one teeth forward but it didn't work)
When I first rebuilt the engine I was having the rough iddle then I scanned it and it gave me the cam positioning sensor code P0345, then after I replaced it problem got fixed and code was gone, I was using the truck for 2 days with no issues, then the problem cam back with the two codes P0345 and P0022!
I'm lost right here I would appreciate any help Thank you.
Just came from replacing the solenoid on bank 2. Before we got started I tried swapping the vct solenoid from bank 1 to see if the code was appearing on bank 1. No success although I swapped both solenoids still shows code on bank 2 P0345.
After replacing the solenoid from bank 2 for a new one, still running rough and rattling.
I'm about to take out the alternator to have it tested, if there's no issue with it, I will go ahead and replace the oil pump although I already replaced that when we rebuilt the engine.
Any suggestions people? I'm going crazy with this thing it's been a month and I have been going back and forth with parts at the store.
I just replaced that oil pump, it was bad the guys from the autoparts gave me the wrong one, I don't know how. The screws holding the 2 gears that connect to the crankshaft were loose ????????
I'm going tomorrow so I can get the refund on that, in the mean while, I have ordered that oil pump and got it installed it just pumps up the oil like it's supposed to. I also found out the passenger side timing chain guide was broken (that black plastic piece), I also replaced it luckily they had it on stock for $20 bucks. Got that done as well, when everything got checked out I went ahead and started the engine. It sounds good but it has that little ticking on that passenger side. Now I noticed that phaser got bad as well ¬¬
I went back again to get it replaced and they were cool about it thank god. I will go ahead and replace that phaser and get it running again, I hope no more issues come across with this hellish engine.
Nothing still same problem timed up to specs bank 2 at 6 o'clock, bank 1 12 o'clock.
Same issue
Im in the exact same boat right now... are you running any aftermarket stuff like programmer etc? I just replaced bank 2 vct and was really hoping it was it but nope. If I keep my idle up eith my programmer I dont get the p0345 just the p0022. Waiting on a call from a buddy of mine whos a ford tech
Solenoids are not the problem, no programmer, I don't get any codes anymore.
I had used those phaser limiters from Comp Cams (Comp Cams PHASER LIMITER, FORD 3V CAM 5448) see picture below.
SAME ISSUE haha, I'm going to the basics 'cause there's anything more to inspect I have gone through everything already so I'm going back to solenoids, sensor connectors, SPARKPLUGS, grounds as well.
I called a mechanic to help out, he did found the current problem, Two SPARKPLUGS not currently working (I did installed new ones but I did installed them without special tools), I just dropped them in and screwed them in, that's why they got messed up.
I'll keep you guys posted I'm gonna get those 2 sparkplugs for tomorrow and see what happens.
Truck Fixed, 2 spark plugs got bad at installing them due to the use of a regular 14mm long socket, next time I'll use the proper tool but in the mean while (the cheap way), I used the coil boot to get it in and then tightened.
No codes showing no more even after I installed the lockers on the phaser with no programmer I still don't get the codes is that odd? or that's the way it should be?
Anyhoe, it's fixed I hope this helps some other people.

Hmmm, codes are kinda strange for it being plugs. Guess ill start there since its the next cheapest thing
