I own a 2004 F150 fx4. The motor was replaced when the can phazers went. The dealer found a broke/missing can chain tensioner. I drove the truck for a few days ( one ride was over an hour an a half.) Check engine light came on. The dealer said the catalytic converters are plugged. The owner of the vehicle had a local muffler shop install after market weld in Gibson cats. So the dealer won't cover repairs. I ran a system scan on the truck and its showing codes (1/2 P0420 catalyst system efficiency below threshold bank 1) (2/2 P0430 catalyst system efficiency below threshold bank 2) I've been looking on eBay for aftermarket products. Seeing as ford is extremely expensive. I came across davico manufacturing. They sell both sides direct bolt on. No cutting, welding, or fabrication needed. $629.00 +$50.00shipping. Does anyone know of a better product or way of fixing this. Thank you for your time.
I'm sure you will get plenty of advise.
But my suggestion would be to find a reputable muffler shop & see what they have to say. Since they have been replaced could it be they are too free flowing causing the codes? I have seen this before.
The cats that were installed seem to me to be way undersized. With all the computer monitoring I'm sure the system that's installed now is not up to specs. Honestly in my opinion its a hack job. Instead of the four cats that are normally there. Its just the first cat just after the upstream O2 sensor.
