Engine Coolant over heating

Last fall I flushed and changed out my water pump, Thermostat, Coolant Temperature sensor, and coolant reservoir. My 2001 Excursion ran find all fall and winter long. This year I changed out the Fan clutch.

Problem: when it warms up and drive well for a while than the gauge start to go up and start staying its overheating. The weird thing is when I turn on the A/C it brings the tempature back down. When its in gear and running without the A/C it creeps up to almost the red. I cleaned the Radiator and made sure it was clean but it still does the same thing. On top of that, the upper hose (when the car is turned off) seem to colasp slightly.

Other than getting it professional Flushed I don't know. The coolant has nothing to do with the Radiator? I'm pretty much stump with it. Anyone have any ideals?

With an '01 Ex, there are three different engines you could possibly have in your rig. Since you don't have that info listed, I'm thinking you want us to guess?

Humor aside, please if you would, let us know what engine you have.

Its a 2001 Excursion with a 6.8 V10 its not a diesel. I didn't put the fan clutch in backwards. I actually use the flush they have at AutoZone, and I did that twice.

Why was the fan clutch changed? Have you verified the new clutch is engaging when warm? You may have air in system as well. Start the engine when cold with the cap off and let it fully warm up. Check for any air bubbles coming up through the overflow. You don't mention the overflow cap but they can go bad and there is a new design which holds the pressure better. The higher pressure allows for the boiling point to increase.

I'm with the last poster. My guess is the new fan clutch isn't working ?
Also make sure you use an OEM thermostat. (motorcraft)
Research how to test it. When it's overheating, does the fan roar like it's fully engaged ? Stick your hand behind it and feel if there is good airflow.

A new MOTORCRAFT thermostat and a new cap usually cures overheating problems. I am surprised it doesn't go into limp mode.
