I am pretty sure the oil seal is going bad since I am getting the blue smoke at idle and a big puff of blue at take offs. My question is why is it intermittent? The conditions don't change, driving habits are the same and there are days it's bad enough to make me want to tear it apart and rebuild it and other days it is non existent...... Can anyone explain this?
The way I see it is when a seal is bad....either it leaks all the time or it doesn't.
I guess what I am trying to figure out, is the seal gonna let loose and fail one day leaving me stranded or do I have time to set a day aside to tear it apart....sometime this summer but not yet.
Fwiw, usually before I would have problems with my ipr, my truck would randomly smoke blue whitish smoke. I suppose it would be from higher icp than desired from the screen being plugged. Just a thought check ipr at hot idle and watch desired and actual icp while smoking.
