I have been having a h**l of time with this build.....got it back together today..couple of test runs now this...did i blow the turbo somehow??what can cause all this smoke at idle??The turbo boosts good..... VIDEO0007.mp4 video by Joeyd61 - Photobucket
edit--after reading Phils (schlepprock250) thread "White smoke"...it sounds like i blew my seals...Can they be replaced on a 38R?????
Pull an intake tube and see how much oil is in there. Next pull a part off the exaust, if it's a turbo problem Id bet you'll find an excessive amount of oil in one or the other. Does it smell like oil? And what are the chances of you "blowing a seal"? Not sure on the turbo rebuild. Last I heard you could send it off to be rebuilt but maybe just a seal replacement can be done on your own. Not sure though. It's a 38R?
yes smells like oil and it is a 38r.. I am tired so no more work today, we just got the head back on,surely there is no problem there..
as far as the smoke goes,it will even smoke after the truck is shut down for say 10-15 seconds
Joey does it smoke immediately after start up it does it have to run for a while? If it's a turbo seal the oil will take a little while to heat up and start to smoke.

IDK,it hasn't had time to cool off...it started on the way home from the shop.I will see in the morning
I confirmed a bad turbo seal today,I found lots of oil in the exhaust,it started smoking on a towing trip to Gatlinburg it seemed the longer I drove it the more it would smoke. It didn't smoke immediately but didn't take too long...

Mine is bad at idle not to bad driving....yet.....
found the problem ( believe),the HPOP blew the fitting to the driver side head..It appears that it blew the threads out of the pump...So,I am thinking not enough oil to the injectors and they were pump raw fuel and not burning..The thing is, when i got to the house it was smoking like crazy but no oil under the truck, when i got to the shop this am and parked it,it was running like sh** and had a puddle under it
Wow, I've never heard of
A truck running more than a couple of seconds after blowing a line or fitting. At specially on the ds, as soon as the icp would lose pressure it would die. Keep us posted. Something isn't adding up!

David,
It didnt blow all the way off, it was spraying oil like a pressure washer..It pulled the threads out of the pump
