Ok fellas! You've been of immense help so far, and NOW I've got another problem....It's the 6th of July, and I was on my way to the Outer Banks with my fiance to do some fishing. Going down the highway, we noticed the smell of burning oil. So I stopped, and looked underneath, and transmission fluid was leaking out of the torque converter cover, onto the exhaust pipe. I checked the transmission fluid level, and it said it was about 2 quarts over full. I don't understand this as two days prior, I checked the fluid level, with the vehicle warm and running, in park. It was right on the full mark. I cannot detect the presence of any coolant fluid, having migrated through the coolant lines running through the radiator.
This 1994 with the E4OD Bronco has a torque shudder and I was getting ready to change the torque converter and rebuild the transmission.
I guess my question is this: Why, all of a sudden, did the fluid level in the transmission show overfull? Does it sound like I have blown the front seal on the transmission, or is something amiss with the torque converter? And why is it pumping fluid out of the torque converter cover? HELP! Thanks......Terry.
Disregard the above post, I think I spent to much time as a hippy in the sixtys. After getting over my being mad and going out to assess the situation I found that it wasn't the tranny at all it was the darned oil pan gasket that let go found it when I checked the motor oil, as I changed it yesterday I knew it was full and today thee Qts. low. Duh Huh ......Terry
