Need some advice....

Hey fellas, I am looking at a 2004 F250 6.0 and have a few questions. I have read a whole bunch of stuff on here about the 6.0 (I am a former 7.3 owner) and feel a lot better about the truck after for now. Pulled the OASIS and found the the EGR Cooler assembly has been replaced when the truck was 4yrs old, That's the big worry correct? Also, A "blows black smoke" with the repair per TSB 06 23 02 and 06 19 08.

The truck had two owners with the first owning it for 12 years and the former for two. It already has a coolant by-pass on it and red coolant in it.

The other thing it has an Edge tuner. Of course the tune is set to 4 so it runs really good. I need a little help here. I want to take it to stock and I cant find it in the instructions. Also, That will monitor both EOT and ECT correct?

I am hoping to make a deal on this tomorrow and am running out of time searching all the posts.

Thanks in advance, cant wait to get an oil burner in the garage again..g

Hab

The tuner is really the only red flag for me. Hard on the tranny. If you do get it I would take that tuner out of it. Imo

Are you sure TSB 06-19-08 is the correct number?

Nothing looks bad from what you have described. When was the EGR work done?
Was it a replacement in kind?

Personally, I would check the EOT/ECT split and also put a pressure gauge on the degas bottle before buying a used/tuned 6.0L.

Mark, The EGR cooler was replaced in 08 by a Ford dealership as well as the Degas bottle. There a few tranny filter replacements on the OASIS as well. I plan on driving today and checking the temps. I really like the truck, and this dealer is pretty reputable, but they don't do a lot of powerstrokes.

Thanks all for the replies,

Hab

And after looking around a little I found this is one of the TSB done. Not sure why I couldn't find them last night.

If the egr cooler was replaced the oil cooler should have also been replaced. Root cause.

I thought the same thing too after all the reading Ive been doing on here. If they were both done, it should be listed in the OASIS correct? Its not and that work was done in 08.

Im going to test drive today and see what EOT and ECTs run. I am leary of the fact that it has an edge tuner, but that will let me see the temps which is a positive.

Thanks
