Ring gear stamp
Ring gear stamp
I have an unknown front axle because of reasons we aren't going to discuss.
The differential cover is 10 bolts.
On the short axle shaft it reads: .. .29 8 C5 6100.. ("." are unreadable numbers)
differential the numbers are C38581 which I understand is the model number
On the ring gear I found
12 5 78 Dana 338050 A3050 45-11 563 (563 is upside down compared to rest of numbers)
From my understanding that means December 5, 1978 is the production date and it has 4.10 gears (which I have confirmed by counting teeth.)
The other numbers I do not understand and have been trying to do internet research.

Going by the numbers on your ring gear....you have 4.09:1 reverse cut Dana 44. I need the last "2" numbers of the "6100.." to identify what it came out of exactly.
Reverse cut just means high pinion or pinion enters above the axle center line. (Info from my Dana book.)

There are about 23 different trucks that have the B.O.M. (Bill of Materials) number starting with 6100.. That's GM, Chrysler/Dodge and Jeep. I'm assuming it's a Ford front end?? Assuming it's a Ford (with coil spring wedges), it's out of a 79 F-150 pick up. If it has spring perches, and it's Ford...it's out of a 79 F250. I know GM pumpkin is on the passenger side. I'm not sure about Dodge or Jeep. If it has spring perches....could be Dodge W100or W200. Jeep could be J10, J20, Grand Wagoneer or Grand Cherokee. (All from late 70's or early 80's)
The front axle is a passenger side drop. It appears that it had leaf springs. I really should have paid more attention when I bought the dang thing because now it seems there is a large chance of it NOT matching my rear axle.
