Finally pulled a little weight

Have been setting up my 28' enclosed trailer since I bought it in December. I got my tool box, winch and cabinet mounted up. I had to re locate the floor anchors for my car. Yesterday I was laying out the floor anchor positions for my bike also.

Before I went crazy drilling holes in my floor I wanted to make sure the car was far enough forward with the motorcycle also to not cause towing issues.

So I somewhat strapped them down and went for a little drive. To start the truck squatted a good bit.... I don't know how much tong weight I have but I guesstimate my trailer being 8,500-9,000 pounds.

Anyway I was impressed right away how it pulled off the line. I did not lay into it hard and just driving normal I was up to speed pretty quick. I did a few dead stop full throttle pulls and a few full throttle pulls from 30mph and the truck did great! I am very impressed with the 6.2!

I really noticed how stable the truck was..... Very planted and very easy to pull my trailer.

I pulled a fifth wheel camper back home I just bought for about sixty miles. It weighs about 7K. I think the truck pulled great. It wasn't through mountains, but I think it'll work great for the places I go frequently.

I just pulled about 500 miles through Northern CA with my 7.5K Travel Trailer plus a few hundred pounds of cargo in the tonneau covered bed. Found that the 6.2L ran about 2K RPM to cruise at 60-62 mph in 5th gear. The truck did not seem to like 6th gear with that load on level ground.

Once I got into the mountains (6-8% grade) had to shift to 4th or 3rd on a few occasions and rev it up to 3500-4000 rpm to stay at 50. Got about 8 mpg overall on the trip.

Bottom line: worked OK for me, got the job done, because I don't tow that often. Most of my F-250 driving is short trips on level ground. If I towed regularly, I would want the diesel engine in the hills.

My the way, I added Timbren aeon springs to help the weight distributing/anti-sway hitch - they worked great. No change in unloaded ride, but with the load, smoothed out the ride and felt rock solid with no roll, porpoising or sway.

I have 3.73's its a CC 4x4 short bed Lariat.....I have just finished my trailer up and its ready for use. I will only typically use it a few times a month to go racing. The two tracks I go to are not far....Atlanta Drag way and Road Atlanta are only about 60 miles Silver Dollar race way is a bit further close to 100 miles.

I think the truck towed it great....again I did not go far just a little 25mile round trip to make sure I had the weight distributed good. The 6.2 has plenty of power...under normal acceleration I think it pulled it effortlessly.

I don't have any huge hills in my area....a few small inclines and the truck pulled them in 5th at 55mph no problem.

I can see it working on a long steep grade and as I mentioned if I pulled like this all the time and in much more hilly areas I would probably go to a 6.7.

My only area of concern is how the truck will respond to the 35's I plan to put on later this year????

Again I don't tow but a few time a month and not far at all.....other than that the truck gets used for around town short trips. I think I will be fine but it is a thought in the back of my head.
