I know there has been a lot posted about this before but my issue seems a little different. I let the truck warm up a while before I drive it and when I'm accelerating up to speed ( mostly onto the highway ) it bucks/ hesitates like crazy. Sometimes once I'm on the highway and want to speed up it will do the same and blow black smoke until I mash the throttle and it takes right off with no problem. I changed the oil, added RevX, changed the fuel filters with MC filters and cleaned the EGR valve. Now the truck does it even worse than before. I was leaning towards injectors but I'll be thrilled if that's not the issue.$$$
The truck has over 150k and I don't know what you mean by overboost. Sorry I don't have any numbers on it. I forgot to mention it seems to stop after it's warm and I do have the upgraded fuel spring.
You would know what I mean by overboost. The vanes that control exhaust flow get stuck from carbon build up and when you accelerate and they're stuck you won't have power and it may surge or buck or the vanes could break loose and overboost and throw you back in the seat and take off with a bunch of smoke out the tail pipe
Just changed the fuel filters with MC filters about 2 months ago when this started happening and no I didn't drain the water separator I didn't know it existed.
After reading some other FTE forums some people suggested the EGR valve might be the culprit. Got me thinking about the truck running worse after I cleaned the EGR. So as someone recommended I unplugged the EGR. I took the truck for a drive today about 30 mins each way and it never hesitated or bucked once. I'm going to leave this way and drive the truck more often to see if that's what it really is. If it fixes the problem then I'll be doing an EGR delete in the near future. While I'm at it I'll clean the turbo and do a rebuild kit on it. I hope this solves it I really don't have the cash or understanding wife for injectors.
Glad you found the problem, but you want to plug the valve back in it helps in when high heat on the engine turns the fan function on, you can pull the Valve and clean it up with Carb cleaner and a plumbers flux or tooth brush
OH and ware your safety glasses that stuff burns like
