Im new to this Forum but belong to other forums and have searched for previous posts on my speedo problem and can not find an answer here.
Just bought an 2000 V10 4x4 excursion last week. The speedometer will not move past 30 mph even at 60 mph. Speedo bounces a little also. Where do I start to look to fix this issue??
I should have test drove it on the freeway instead of just around the block, argh.
Guess I was still in shock when the guy sold it to me for $3000?
Any help is greatly appreciated, trying to get the X reliable for the wife to drive.
Got the same problem, lol. 2000 Ex 4x4 6.8. It was reading up to about 42 mph, seemed fairly accurately, but wouldn't move past that point. Replaced speed sensor in rear axle while changing diff oil, now it reads to 55 and then stops moving. Wife was driving home, said it read 55, but I was behind her in her car doing 65-70 to keep up. Any ideas?
Do you have any tool that will plug into the OBD port and read vehicle speed from the sensor not GPS (Torque, Scan Gauge etc)? It would be an easy check to see if the speed sensor is sending a signal. My guess is that it is and it is probably in the cluster itself but first thing is to check output from the sensor.
Took mine for about a 100 mile round trip today (used GPS for speedo) and it reads accurately up to about 42, same as before, but when you are running 70-75 it will try and jump up around 50-55 range. I don't have any kind of tool for checking the sensor like suggested. Maybe we can figure out the OP and my speedo problems between all of us, lol.
I had this issue with my 79 Datsun 620 (totally not the same) but I just used an old Garmin for a few years... worth the money until you get it figured out
Yeah, the speedometer isn't such a huge deal for me as long as I have the GPS, but my cruise control isn't working, and I suspect they are related. The cruise is nice to have on my 13hr trip back home twice a year, lol.
If, you can borrow an odb2 gauge from a 6.0 friend and read what the computer thinks your speed is... You can determine whether it's the dash needle getting stuck/rubbing or electrical input the computer.
I have a bluetootb odb2 adapter and free ap for phone and forscan for a pc to read stuff like this, in addition to the scangauge2 for when i am driving
