OT - Thanks

I'll post a truck thread in a few minutes. First things first. Some days ago, I shared the loss of one of my truck-dogs. You folks were so kind and supportive.

Two days later, our little dog started acting sketchy. A trip to the Vet revealed a very aggressive and terminal cancer. He faded fast and I had him put down two days ago... All of my dogs have always been rescues.

In retirement, I work mornings as a Volunteer at the Escondido Humane Society mostly with Pit Bull behavior therapy. For the first time in 42 years, Momma and I came home to a house without pets. My home insurance company doesn't allow Pit-Bulls as well as other select (high risk) breeds. (Stupid Policy)

Anyway... so now I can share some healing and joy This new truck-dog is a year old Lab mix. We look forward to many good years of truck-dog travel!

Oh man, sorry for your losses but glad you've rescued a new buddy. Lab rescue is a major piece of my wife's life (and mine indirectly). We have two here now that she's working with socializing them for new families to adopt. As you know, 51% or more of a dog's behavior issues are related to clueless owners. Hope you two (three) have many great road trips together. Stu

That is so hard ! Two in short time. I m sorry for your losses . It is great that you can help bring a good home to that lab mix. It feels good when you can help out a loving dog.
This Bear the brown lab and Levi the black lab we adopted last year

He had to go to a boot camp as did I so we could keep the two of them from trying to kill each other. Now there best friends

One night Bear's kennel didn't get latched and Levi wanted out of his kennel badly!!!

The sorrow and the joy can be so hard to comprehend - Just remember that your new friend is going to be excited and scared and confused all at the same time - Take your time and be attuned to this companion and not your former ones
I support a local shelter all that I can - The just got certified for the Pets For Vets program, I'm looking forward to this program
It takes money away from my Ol' Trucks but thats OK cause old dogs are even better

Dawg,

Sorry to hear about your other little fella. I can't imagine a home without dogs.

We had the vet out to the house last night to give our dogs a look over. Our German Shepard is 7 years old now and fit as a fiddle. Our mutt is getting old, pushing 14 and probably completely blind (we're just trying to keep her comfortable in her old age) She's actually in pretty good shape for her age.

We have been searching the local rescue organizations for another German Shepard puppy. The wife brought home this aussie/healer/mutt cross. He is super gentle and is fitting in really well (and he has really bonded with my son, so its his dog...LOL)

My experience with German Shepard's was great but at 7, they start having hip displasia issues. You can buy a few years with a miracle drug called "Adequan". The dog becomes 3 years younger within a week if they have joint issues.

Our last Aussie was a wonderful dog. I think the ideal mix is Aussie/Golden.

Hey, (I can Hijack my own thread ) Probably should be a PM but I'm lazy.

How did your Steering Box relocation go? So now when you turn the wheel left the truck actually goes left?

The Radiator info you sent me was great. I believe I arrived at the proper part number for SBC F1s. Vista-Pro #433511.

Hey Eman,
Sorry to hear about your dogs - good to see you jump right back in with that white lab puppy. not sure that I've ever seen a white Lab?
Where do you find one of those? Cool.

Hey Chris,
Why do your seats have Amarillo embroidered on there? Are you a closet Texan?

Good to see that you got a new one after heartbreaks. Dogs are great, and especially rescued ones. They know. We have three, one deaf border collie, a lab mix, and a spaniel mix. All are great and very happy to have a good home. It is always sad to lose one, a part of the family gone. I have always had dogs and all were rescued from somewhere. Our spaniel mix was dumped, with the rest of the 4 pup litter, on the side of I-10 outside of Houston and a lady a few cars behind who saw it all. She reported the license number and saved two of the pups. One went the wrong way and was run over, and Sadie ran to a trailer park nearby. She was rescued about a week later and reunited with her two siblings at a rescue center nearby. We ended up with her, still a small pup, 7 years ago. The deaf border collie was rescued just before he was going to be a training kill at a nearby pit bull fighting ring and we got him after someone saved him. He is really smart and can't hear anything! The lab mix is a funny one, still loves to play at 4 years old.

Dawg,

I know what you mean about the German Shepards. Our last one was 15, she had terrible dispasia. The Shepard we have now I don't think is full blooded, she has super long legs and is not low slung in the rear. So far, she doesn't show any signs of dysplasia.

The steering box relocate came out great.... ...and yes it does turn the right way....LOL.
I'm glad you were able to get the radiator stuff handled.
