Brake question ...

So my wife took my truck out while I was at work since I had her car..... She drove the truck with the e brake on ....she said the truck was smoking while she was driving with the e brake on. Now I check my e brake it still works but now I have to press my brake pedal all the way to the floor to make the truck stop. It also looks like the rear of my truck is higher like the e brake is still engaged.Do you think the rear drum shoes are shot or something broke in my rear drum? I'm going to take it apart Sunday on my day off, just wondering what you guys think.

Yes, there is a good chance your rear brakes are worn down considerably. You should check them and have your drums checked, as they were heated up beyond what they should be. They may be worn as well.
When you get the drums off, you will see then if there is any damage, like wheel cylinders leaking or springs frozen or broke.
With the E brake on, everything, including your drum and rim, overheat. How much depends on how far it was driven with the brake on.

Ok I will check it out as soon as I can. I was just at odds on why my brake pedal would be soft now , would it effect my slave cylinder also? It looks full but I just don't know why my brake pedal is so soft now after my wife drove 20miles with e brake on....... Errr

Your brakes may feel soft now as the brake shoes may have been worn down to the point your brake shoes are worn out. They will need to move a lot farther to engage the drums now so the pedal will need to move farther too. Thus it will feel the way you describe.
Good luck with the exam this weekend. Hopefully the drums are OK.

Just check everything out when you pull the drums off. Chances are, you only need new shoes, but, there is always a chance for more damage when you heat the rear brakes up like that.

Your master Cylinder should be fine, but, if the rear wheel cylinders are leaking, you will begin to loose fluid.

Again, you probably only have to replace shoes, or adjust to make up the wear from the ordeal.

Oh, show her how to know the e-brake is on, so this doesn't happen again. lol

Same thing happened to me. How do you know when you need to replace the shoes?

Thanks

Shoes will be VERY smooth and signs of hairline cracks. Drums could also have signs of cracking from the intense heat.

Ok one more question... So I'm on my way home to take the rear wheels and drum off so I can get a good look inside. But my question is can my ebrake be sticking also ? I notice the rear of my truck is higher up than usual like when I put my ebrake on on my driveway. It looks and smells like my ebrake is still activated if so is that a simple fix I can do myself. I have already released my ebrake and tested my ebrake to make sure it was still activating. Sure enough when I out my ebrake on to the floor my truck does not roll back and as soon as I release the ebrake it does , so I know my ebrake is still working but I think it is still activated a little bit because my rear of my truck is so high up. I'll try and get pictures as soon as I get home.

Ps- I'm in hobby lobby with the wife and 5month baby sorry for the jumble sentence

Mine was sticking a bit. I tore into it. Took everything apart. Cleaned it, sprayed everything with brake cleaner and a wire brush. put it back together and its working fine now. (I had the same issue when the woman drove with the ebrake on )

I did replace all the springs while I was in there, I also ordered new cylinders. But I don't think it was really necessary. Just stuff to replace to save headache down the road..
