EGR operation/test

I pulled my egr, as the service engine soon light came on. It was relatively clean, with only a little dry, black soot visible. I hooked it back up and cycled the ignition switch with the valve body sitting on top of the block. I observed no change in the position of the switch. I was thinking it should open and close from what I read in the threat on disconnecting the egr. The truck was cold and unstarted for 24 hours. 06 model. Should it open and close with the ignition key cycle? Thanks!

No.
While watching the commanded and actual values on my SG2, my EGR valve won't move until I'm up to operating temp. After that, it looks like it moves in relation to throttle position.

Thanks! Just did chores with it, and I will pull the valve while warm to see if I can make it operate. Appreciate the reply.

Get the codes read. They stay in memory even if the light goes off (unless you pull the batteries). That will get you on the right track.
