I know you guys are funnin around, BUT how many regular Joe's (no offence Joe) either thru Ignorance, Trusting People, Bad luck, The wife, Financial Problems or Lack of Finances ( Feed the family, buy the cheaper part, product, or strictly oem and to hell with the babe's). have fallen victim to this kind of crap. I know it has happened to me more than once in my 51 yrs on this planet. Something happens, unexpected repairs are needed, the budget says we might get by if we can save on parts? labor? or ??. The repairs are done, 6 months later after just catching up (maybe?) your heading to work and it wont start, you miss work, get fired and now you learn there were problems with the parts installed, someone knew about it back then but the memo never crossed YOUR desk, didn't see it on TV etc. This is a hypothetical story from me that I will bet the bank on happens EVERY DAY to people thru situations mentioned above....And it PISSES ME OFF! Basically, people suck. Greed runs so rampant with a blind eye watching and saying nothing that it's become common place or the "norm". That is why I like THIS forum so much, Good solid advice, people going out of their way to help other people in need and that in itself is priceless, or basically, people that Don't Suck. FTE I personally thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything that I've gained from you all and its getting to be quite an extensive list but who's counting right? That's what good people do. Thanks again, sorry it turned into a rant,......... I'm still on subject?.........Right....Peace sometimes is only accomplished thru proper projectile placement....Have Fun
I don't hate Dorman, they have their place and every piece they sell isn't complete junk, but it's definitely a case of you get what you pay for.
As for the oil cooler fiasco, that's a weird one and no doubt they are regretting saving $.01 to include those incompatible green gaskets. And really it's the gaskets that have proven to fail, the jury is still out on the actual cooler.
My philosophy on parts is:
How would I save with OEM, versus economy parts versus improved aftermarket?
How difficult/time does it take to redo the repair?
How difficult will it be to get warranty and/or replacement parts in the middle of nowhere?
I completely agree. It's the unscrupulous manufacture's policy's and practice's of Profit before Quality that bite's people in the ***, sometimes pretty hard.
I've had a Dorman EGR cooler in my hands. Wouldn't use it if I had to, seems cheap and flimsy. The tubes are not welded like the Bulletproof ones, they seem to be furnace brazed. I'd be concerned with durability issues with one.
Some Dorman stuff has it's place and can be used perfectly. Other stuff not so much.
Like Josh said, the oil cooler it's self seems fine. The gasket, not so much. Put a Dorman cooler in, get the right gasket and save $$$. Up-pipes actually fit really well. EGR cooler might be okay, but like Mike said, it's not worth trying when you see and feel it.
