I converted my 460 to the 90s style serpentine belt setup. I would like to have the a/c work on my truck but of course cant use the old style compressor. Has anyone converted their trucks a/c system to accommodate the 90s style compressor? My cab is a 77' F-350.
I converted my FE 390 to the Sanden style compressor but still use the v-belt drive. You can order the compressor with a serpentine drive pulley.
I had custom hoses made but there are adapters that allow you to use the original hoses.
I bought my brackets and compressor from Nostalgic Air. Nostalgic AC - Aftermarket Air Conditioning For Automobiles
There's one thing I would do differently though. On the hoses, I would use a 120° fitting on the high pressure hose (the one with the red charge cap) rather than the 90° that I used. I think it would make for a neater looking installation.
I converted my 302 over to a serpentine set up from a 90's F150. I used an FS10 compressor from a 95 F150. I bought my hoses from Nostalgic Auto Air with the fittings I needed to make it work with the factory evaporator. I'm not sure if you've looked at how the FS10 compressor hoses are attached, but on mine from the 95 it has a manifold block with steel hoses coming out of it that bolts to the back of the compressor. I cut the steel part of the factory hoses and had the proper fittings welded on so that I could connect up my new hoses. There may be an easier way, but this allowed me to put new hoses and the proper R134 charging ports in place.
Just thought I would add that I'm still happy with the factory York. The system on my 78 was correctly switched to 134A and blows snowflakes out of the vents lol.
Wow theres lots of good stuff on that Nostalgic air website. If I could run the york compressor that would be great. I didnt see a serpintine belt pulley/clutch for the york on that website though. Looks like they have enough adaptors if I end up running the FS10.
