I replaced mine several years ago-2011 IIRC -Both cps & CC deactivation switch. Still have to go by ford dealer for verification. From what I understand if they dont check it & there is a problem from fire or accident the insurance may or may not cover it (Surprise surprise). Can anyone confirm this as I dont want to take the truck in if I dont have to.
I got the part from Tousley Ford. Fixed myself took 15 min. I do not trust the dealer with my truck at all!! Just got another notice last week of the recall. Might have dealer inspect it to clear the recall but only in the parking lot under my watchful eye.
Anybody got the part number for the disconnect switch? (The one on the master cylinder).
Mine was broken in the wreck, and the replacement does not hookie together with the harness connector. May hap i got the wrong one... it was an ebay buy that said it was supposed to fit my truck.
Well... it's time to show the Cruise Control Conundrum Conclusion.
I fired up the ol' AE and clicked the "Brake Pressure Switch" box on the list of PIDs. A big fat red bar (active) showed up on the right. I pressed and released the brake to see if it changed state, and nope... she's a gonner.
Step 1: Pretending it's like a toilet that's running, I jiggle the wires. Nothing's changing here. I see a blue tag that says something about a non-serviceable fuse... but that's for other people, with less tenacity. I look at the sensor and the housing is a spinner (connector rotating with it). Well... so much for fixing the fuse.
Step 2: Call Ford Service and ask if the recall was done. They tell me it was done when the PO traded it in (2010), just before I bough it. Crap... my nickel now.
Step 3: Call Ford Parts "Is that you Rich? We haven't heard from you in a while." Anyway... they say the latest brake pressure switch mod is $27 - sheeute, I have enough quarters in the ashtray to cover that. The kit comes with switch, cable, and a zip tie (man's answer for everything when he can't find the duct tape). The parts guy informs me the modification was modified - there is a new connector style. Owe kay.
After receiving the part, It's time to wrench up. I figure this will be a 10-minute job, complete with washing my hands. Uh... the brake switch is like the old ICP: The wrenchy part is behind the big fat sensory part - no socket will work here. I don't have a set of claw-feet, so I have to angle around the rigid brake lines and that stupid rigid S&B snorkel. If that thing wasn't such a good breather, it would be gone. I try the 14mm - too small. OK... it's a 15. Nope. 9/16ths? Ford is really messing with my mind now. My truck is full of metric tools, now I have this. I have Channel-Locks that will fit, but I can't get a two-piece handle and a fist around the brake lines and that stupid S&B. Did I mention I hate the design... but it works well? I can't use the body to remove the brake switch, it's free-spinning.
So now I have to fall back to the garage. Why is this a big deal? If I was 400 miles from home and really needed to replace this part (leaking), I would have an issue. I prefer being self-sustained for all but major repairs. I finally micro-spin the switch out, and the new one goes right in without issue. The fact that I can get a socket on the new one, the body is solid, and that it's 22mm pleases me on many levels. I'd dance a jig, but it's time to drive 60 miles to work.
Ahh... there's that green "Cruise" on the dash I've been looking for.
Could I bother you to show a pic of the dash with the cruise "on" and "set" lights?
I only have one light for "set" but read somewhere yesterday 99+ should also have a "on" light.
Cruise works fine, maybe I just have a bulb out or something...
Now I am really confused. I have not received a recall notice and called my local dealer about it. They told me that there were no open recalls on my truck and that the issue did not apply to any SD with hydro boost brake systems, as the cruise control on a diesel is a different system. Are we talking about two different issues here?
I neglected to mention that I gave them my VIN and was told there were no active recalls on my truck. Maybe the service guy did not look close enough? I'll try the link - thanks.
That's interesting. I remember getting this same notice a couple years ago and I never got it in to have it done. Then I got the latest notice last month. Did you maybe have it done a long time ago?
I've replaced the BPA, speed sensor, clock spring & all fuses on my E99 SD and still have no cruise.... and no horn. Pretty much in a holding pattern till I acquire AE I think.
Ford told me I had no open campaign on my truck. When I pressed the issue, that's when they said the recall was done in 2010. The part on my shop floor is the actual recall part for that time, so everything syncs up nice. You might have to press them to look into when and where the recall was done.
The Brake Pressure Switch is specifically on a Diesel - the gassers just have a Brake Position Switch. That's according to the Ford (not Haynes or the like) wiring diagram to the left of my keyboard right now.
VindexInjuriae - No horn, eh? The horn and the Cruise Control are on the same page in the wiring diagram (2000 diagram). The horn fuse (#12 is a 15A) and relay (#3) is in the Central Junction Box - behind the kick panel by your left knee. #3 Relay (Horn) is the top big relay on the left, not the smaller one(s) above it.
99 through 2001 uses about the same wiring diagram. 2002/2003 models had a radical change to the wiring diagram.
