High Miles

Would you buy a 6.7 with high mileage????? I`m looking at an F-450 with close to 200k. Nice truck, but was just wondering how everyone is doing with the longevity now that some of these trucks are getting old enough to have high mileage????

You need to look at service records, and compare mileage and price compared to other lower mile used F450's. I would have an issue buying a used rig with that many miles because I know people are not as **** with their vehicles like I am.

If service records and price are right compared to others, only you can make that decision I the vehicle is right for you. Best of luck.

There are a few too many unknowns for me to feel comfy with an answer. What year is the truck, what did the truck do in it's previous life, service records, what is the physical condition of truck, what are you going to use the truck for, how much are they asking for the truck, is the original owner selling the truck or is it at a dealer, what model is it?

Those would be some of my concerns. I suppose you already know the answers to some of these ?'s. Let us know how things go and good luck.

I can give you my personal experience if it helps.

My engine has 90,000 miles on it (long block only so it's basically a block and turbo) and it's fine.

My truck has 212,000 on it right now and that includes everything mounted to the engine block (fuel pump).

I have never had an issue with any part of the truck so far. All the ball joints, u joints, bearings, and interior items have been flawless.

I have no complaints and have no concerns except I don't know how long all this stuff will last. I drive highway miles with medium weighted trailers so besides burning a lot of fuel I'm pretty easy on her. Tires generally last 50,000, brakes easily 120,000.

I had a new long block installed in 2012 when my original motor dropped an exhaust valve and hydro locked the motor. This is a concern for the 2010 build trucks, both standard and chassis cab.

It's possible that you would get another 100,000 out of that truck with no worries. It's also possible that you get 10,000 out of her and need a new turbo. I don't know what else to say......

With that kind of miles, it would have to be exceptionally cheap as it basically has no trade in value.

Hi Joel

Glad to hear you're still rolling along racking up miles. That must mean you are staying busy.

Good post.

Sometimes these trucks are better purchased if driven hard and put away wet, compared to driven by "a little old lady who drives it to church on sunday."

Just something to think about.

Do you know which dates are a concern? I have a 2011 that was built in 10/04/2010. I believe it was the 2nd build for these trucks.

How many miles do high mile 6.7's have on them now?

My son drives and 05 GMC 2500HD with 250,000 miles on the DMax but he bought that cheap due to blown head gaskets and he studded it and put a new turbo wheel in among other things.

My take on it is that I must be dependable with those miles on it.

Good one...could be some of both!

I had excellent service out of my 6.4. And people said it was garbage. I drove the snot out of it.

My son did the engine work himself so he's pretty good at tech work.

I think it's a limited run of job 1 builds.
