Just recently purchased a 1978 f250 high boy with additional 3' lift kit for $50.
My project goal is to turn it into a off road truck, so I'm not to worried about looks.
My mine questions is what years I can switch parts out like doors, clusters, seats. Most trucks near me for parts are 1983-up. Could doors be used from a1987?
The truck runs and trany works but may need rebuilt. 351 with c6.
70s and 80s e series van gauge clusters are the same as the 73-79 Ford truck gauges. As far as seats, I believe that any stock seat from a ford truck all the way up until 1996 will bolt in.
What's the lift kit? Body or suspension? You should check and see if the guy just threw blocks under the front leaf springs. I guess it doesn't really matter if you're just beating on it offroad anyway, but I don't think having blocks up front is a good idea in any circumstance
If its an "off road" truck, why even have doors on it? Roll cage it and go. Dash cluster..... whatever.... put some aftermarket oil pressure and temp gauges, that's all that really matters anyway.
Seats and seat belts DO matter, but yes any 73 to 96 bench will bolt to the OEM tracks. Spend the money on good comfortable seats and belts like Corbeau Off Road or Suspension seats and a quality 4 point belt system..
Doors from 70s grain trucks will work too, like the F600s ( not sure on exact models/year) they have different handles and interior panels but work. They will also have big mirrors.
