lighting upgrade

If anyone is looking to upgrade the lighting on your truck I highly recommend truck lite led headlights (27270c) low power consumption and amazing light output! I just upgraded mine today. The cool thing is they are made in the USA

How much did that run ya? I upgraded mine to halogens instead of the old sealed beams and they are lots better too. I can only imagine what LEDs would put out!

Mine are halogen and I still feel blind at night. What did that LED setup run you? I might just do it.

Previous owner did it. I've never given them a good look so I can't answer that until tomorrow. All I know is that they look bright until you actually drive with them. If it's night time and there's oncoming traffic, I honestly cannot see where I'm going. It's a guessing game. Yes, they are aimed correctly.

truck-lites common in harley world

In motorcycle riding night time visibility is big. a lot of us chose truck-lites phase 7 headlights (led) over the much more expensive harley options. The lower power draw would be a big bonus for some of us running lower powered alternators as well. i believe they are milspec as well.
They do cast kind of a flat light, not omnidirectional like the regular incandescent or halogen bulbs.

About $250 and up from most sellers... each.

Here's a seller priced out at $166 each: Drivetrain America Truck-Lite LED 27270C 7" Round

The thing is with these old trucks, while modern lighting is a lot better today, it's not like they were driving around half blind back in the day. That didn't happen.

That's the first clue. Installing a relay is not addressing the real problem! Imo. If there is a major issue with the stock/original headlight setup then there is always an underlying problem with the wiring, particularly with the grounding straps, charging system, etc. somethin'.

The headlight return path is through radiator, support and frame, back to the engine via starter and frame cable, through the floor dimmer switch,, headlight switch, battery, etc.

Just for grins check for voltage drop (loss) from the negative battery post (not the cable) to the terminal on a headlight when ON, engine OFF. Anything approaching a half a volt is too much, have seen over two volts! My curiosity was started when investigating why the 30 amp generator wasn't charging well enough. Once these problems were addressed, the grounding and connections and adjusted things worked as advertised.

The LED packages look cool too, and will also benefit from getting the max available current, not to mention the starter and heater blower, ignition, etc.

Adding A+ is installing the 3g 130amp alternator setup.

A down side of a lowered vehicle is night vision driving, it seem oncoming vehicles head lights are more blinding then before.

That was the first thing, I noticed other then having to slow at RR crossing and drive way exits, dips at most the intersections. But when your young ya think it cool.

These were from drivetrain america. Color is 5k and 1300 lumen output each. I think they perform better than the factory HIDs on my daily driver

Ted, I've checked my lights. The wiring is good. The lights really are bright, almost blinding if you stand in front of them, but like Orich said it's just a downside of a lowered vehicle. A lot of why I'm blinded is because of oncoming headlights always going in my windhsield, which is at the perfect angle to fill up with glare.

lighting upgrade

I am about to lose my mind with the rear lights/ turn signals. I have been told that is is a ground problem a I have butchered the rear wiring harness. Is that harness available still for a 70 F100 sb? I think I should just replace it and start over from there.

So you guys lower your truck 3 inches and all the sudden on coming traffic has bright lights. Don't buy a sports car or luxury car; you might go blind.

Oh no way, the way around that is by wearing dark sun glasses like some people do
It's got a be much safer wouldn't think.
Day or night indoors out doors night driving, Plus they can be used in Grab & run or an easy in delivering of a bank note!
And lastly a Truck jacking, see sunglasses have many uses.
