I am finally tackling the little things on my 1972 Ford F-100 4X4.
Just for starters it's white, I think it started as blue, has a blue dash, white seat cover. 4 wheel drive. I've put on new brakes and a new 9" rear end. It has a 390-4bbl. 4 speed. Sounds like a inboard motorboat blubing out of true duals. I think I'm going to sell it but fix a few annoying problems first.
Left my gas cap at a filling station, all the ones from the parts stores are not deep enough. The tangs do not go in deep enough to hook. Where to buy a real on that fits?
The pass window is hard to roll down. I took the panel off today and used PB Blaster on every moving part I could find. Rolls up like a champ. I tried to search for these two items but the search may not be working for me since I'm new.

With or without Evaporative Emission? With in-cab tank or optional 25 gallon auxillary tank?
From what you said, I suspect it's the in-cab tank fuel filler tube used with Evaporative Emission, which takes a specific fuel cap.
Without Evaporative Emission...the in-cab fuel cap is the same: 1953/56 F100/950, 1957/66 F100/1100, 1967/69 F800/1000, 1967/72 F100/750.
It is WITH emissions. That's the reason for the long tangs. That's how Ford made sure people didn't put a vented cap on there. There were different choices. Let me know which one you want and I'll run that on the locator.

Go to the parts store and get a gas cap for a 74 f100 with evap emissions. It will fit. I work at the parts store and found out through trial and error that the caps listed for our trucks are not the right ones.
I just put in 2 window regulators in my truck (**** gear was rounded off on both orig. equip. Would roll down but not up because where **** attached was worn out.

Ordered a locking cap from Rock. I have the mechanism for the window out on the garage floor. The **** was already broken off the handle because it's so hard to operate. PB Blasted everything and greased everything. I'm soaking the whole deal overnight. I suspect that coiled spring is rusty and giving too hard of a resistance. If the spring doesn't unwind throughout the whole spring it would create great resistance one way and not the other.
I got my gas cap,69 f250, at autozone fit just fine, but it didn't vent very well. I ended up drilling an 1/8 inch hole in the diaphragm.
Huh. Oreillys listing for the 71 brings up a cap that the tangs are too shallow to engage the neck on my truck. But the listing for a 74+ cap fits perfect.
