I have a 73 F100 ranger and was wondering if i had a vented gas tank. It has the extra hose that connects to the mouth of the filler tube. Does that mean its vented?? If so, do i need some kind of vented gas cap or is there such a thing? Thanks for any help.
While I'm not certain I do know this (from a bad experience): If your vehicle requires a vented cap and you use a non-vented cap your gas tank will collapse. 74 and after have a venting mechanism on the tank where the pickup line connects. This includes a cannister. I'm not sure about 73.
Get a cap from a parts place using their lookup books (Stant). Don't use the 'wrong' one just cause it fits. Be sure - gas tanks are expensive, hard to find, and difficult to R&R
It would'nt hurt to get a vented gas cap too
I have a 69 f250 and the gas tank is not vented
and I had problems with it cutting off I drilled
a small hole in my gas cap problem solved a
vented gas cap works the same way
