I am in the search for a 100k mile or so Excursion with no preference to features other than 4x4 and tow package.
I have come across this :
Model: Excursion Make: Ford Model year: 2000 Trim level: XLT 4WD Standard seating: 9 Engine capacity: V10, 6.8L (415 CID) SOHC EFI
I have the owner sitting at 1000 or so below Blue Book...
What should I be looking for issue wise. I am a mechanic so I know what to look for generally but looking for those "lil secrets" to know if this will be a POS... Thanks
I don't think there's anything major to look for with a V10. You have to expect manifold studs to be replaced now or soon, torque your spark plugs to spec, clean your MAF/IAC.
I guess some common things include the exhaust manifold bolds breaking. You would hear that as kid of a "ticking" noise especially at acceleration. Other common things that go are the coil over plugs causing misfires. Goes for both the 5.4 V8 and the 6.8 V10.
Looks to be a good looking truck. Going to look at it Monday so hopefully everything is as described. I've wanted one forever and now I am going to get me something for me.
At the pumps the other day some older fart came up and asked when I will drop the big truck for something that gets great mileage. When I told I was getting 20 MPG going to Vegas he would not believe me. I showed him the trip meter at 20.7. Why would I give up all the comfort and room for my 6'4" 260 pound aging body for another 10 MPG and all the cramped spaces. I can drive to Vegas about 200 miles and walk all day. In one of those cute little cars I have to get a room and walk the next day.
Enjoy the beast while you can. I commuted in small cracker boxes for 30 years. It is nice to now have the extra room for everyone in my car.
Might not be hugely common with the COP going bad (but occasionally), leaving you mainly with the manifold studs then (although that might be a rust belt thing). Not really much else based on peoples threads on the forum. The V10 (and V8) should generally be very reliable as far as I can tell.
