2001 v10 excursion
First time poster and member.
I have came across a 2001 v10 excursion 200k mile. $5500
I grew up driving and currently drive 16 f250 6.7, myself and father have had almost all the different model f250's, and yes the 6.0. we all make poor life decisions.
I have always wanted this urban assault vehicle.
Is there anything i need to look for during the test drive. Also what future problems should i be aware of?
Thanks for the help
If it has a good service history and is clean, the price is fair, though I'd offer less and work up to $5k. If there are no records, or it has some rust/issues, I'd offer way less and work up to $4,200 or so.
The mileage isn't bad, but if there are no service records, you could get hit with a lot of stuff quickly, or spend a lot trying to get it to a point where it is going to be reliable enough to count on.
If you can post pics, location, and more details we can give you a better answer...
GL!

Sounds like pretty standard checks as far as used trucks go.
On the V-10, check the exhaust manifold studs to see if any are missing. These modular motors tend to have them break off and that will lead to exhaust leaks. Shop costs for a new studs runs about $800 or so but you can do it in the driveway if you are a DIYer, I did mine and swapped the manifolds for headers. The earlier V-10s had the issue where there were only like 4 threads in the spark plug holes (was increased to 7 threads in the'03 model year), so care must be taken when changing plugs with proper torque values to reduce the risk of a plug blow out.
Play very close attention to the transmission on the test drive, with proper care and maintenance the 4R100 will last many miles but, like anything else when abused that lifespan is reduced.
The V-10 XLT does look pretty clean, but I'm somewhat partial to 4X4 V-10 XLT cloth interior EXs.
The 01 looks clean, and I assume its a Texas truck which should keep rust from being an issue! the 01 may be worth it if it checks out.
Not sure I would pay $5500 I paid $3500 for mine in California but it is 2000 Limited 4x4 with only 189k miles on it at the time. Still had its fair share of minor issues but look at talking that guy down just a little.
