What is so different about the Max Tow pkg vs the regular tow pkg? I know it's the mirrors and supposedly different rear bumper, but what is so much different to the bumper that you can tow almost 2k lbs more?
Thx
Robb nailed it, the only listed differences between that and the regular tow package would be the upgraded hitch, trailer brake control, and tow mirrors. The rear springs are also slightly upgraded, and if I remember right the radiator on the EcoBoost engine is slightly larger.
The hitch on there regular towing package is rated for 10,500 lbs. Unless you're going to be towing heavy I don't think it's worth the sacrifice in fuel economy that comes with the 3.73s.

What is upgraded on the bumper? Is the tongue weight of the trailer increased?
the end of the hitch is welded shut and I think it attaches to the rear steep of the bumper for moor support but I only guess at this. as for every thing else its all the same springs. on the 09/10 you got a tighter turning radius/gearing at 20:1. my dads truck came with max tow and normal mirrors same with our shop truck same small mirrors as a normal truck. leaf springs have same weight ratings just different part numbers in some cases but still same length, diameter and thickness. I have seen them on the shelf in the parts room no differences. I know someone will tell me I am f-en crazy but hay I know what I see.
tom yes that's where I was talking about under the truck frame on the hitch receiver its welded close.
as for GVWR/payload/OPT&ARC/GAWR. I don't even know what OPT or ARC stand for, but as for GVWR and GAWR that all can change with axil ratio's, motors, wheel length, bed length, and cab configuration.
now what I should of said was the springs we have in the shop are all the same with different part numbers, one was said to be for max tow and the other was for a normal leaf pack.
yes I miss spoke on the steering as well. but hell after a six pack of bud and a bottle of crown who would of known.
my dads truck and are shop truck both cam with max tow and both have small mirrors.
ill get over to pops and snap a pic or two to show you what I was talking about.
