I just bought a 1977 f100 shortbed, automatic, power steering, air conditioned truck. It has a 289 manifold and a holly carb. It is a project and in a lot of pieces. I do not know if it is a 289 or 302. I also think that the 289 was not built for 73-79 trucks. So this may be a transplant. When I get the truck here, I will remove the starter and see what the casting tells me. I do have my daughters truck to use as a guide as I put it together. I will also claim to be a novice with these trucks but am learning a lot.
I think I read somewhere that a 289 intake will fit a 302. Is this true?
My next question is regarding the radiator/ac. The truck came with a radiator support which is wider than the radiator supplied. so I am sure one of them is incorrect. The previous owner says they are both correct, but I know better. My question is which radiator/radiator support do I want for this ac truck? The wider or the narrower?
The 302 came out in I believe '68. Only the 302 was offered in the 73-79 trucks, no 289 from the factory.
The only difference between the 289 and 302 is the stroke. Your manifold will fit.
I would go with the wide support and get a radiator to match.
