Time to replace the wheels...

2006 F-250 Super Duty King Ranch Lariat FX4 Short Bed Gas V-10

I will be installing an 8" lift here in the near future and with that comes a need for new wheels and tires. I am undecided with the look I want to go with. I've seen really small wheels with really big tires, really big wheels with really small tires, and pretty much everything in between. I am thinking I want to go with the smaller wheel and bigger tire, but I need to know what would be the smallest wheel I could go with. I thought it would be a 16-inch wheel, but I've been reading that may be too small. In addition, is there anything I need to focus on as pertains to backspacing, center bore, or offset dimensions? Advice? Suggestions? Warnings?

Thanx.

Has to be 17"+ to clear the brake calipers. Some 17's might still contact the brakes, but 16's are definitely a no-go.

I think 17" is the smallest rim that will fit over the brakes on 2005+ super duty's. One thing I'd look at is once you decide on tire size compare the different rim sizes in that range, certain tire/rim combinations can be limited in tire selection (mostly in bigger rim size) and more $'$.

Would see that new tires/wheel's are load/speed rated for F250/350 especially if towing. (is a heavy truck)
I am currently running 33 inch Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ radial's on 17X9 Mickey Thompson classic wheel's.
Tried to fit 35 inch tires without any lift/leveling and they rubbed at full lock both sides.

i would go with 305 55 18's with the 8 inch lift.. mine had 355 60 20's with an 8 inch lift and they looked good, but man they are expensicve. the 305 55 is a much more reasonable cost and still have the good tire to rim ration.. its a 35 inch overal tire and looks good under a lift.. Nitto or toyo is what i would go with.. if your more road bound stick with toyo.. off road go witht the nittos.. just my .02 but i have been there and done that.. in the end its your call and what you want and are willing to pay... rim size deff an 18 or 20 with the lift.. 17's are ok, but look small at times.. with what you descibed the 18 inch rim is going to be your best bet for cost and looks..

saying goes "you wanna play, you gotta pay"...

Thanx for the advice, BigOl04. Would you happen to have any pics lying around of that setup? I'd love to see them.

After much deliberation, I decided to go with the following...

8-inch FabTech K20181DB 4 Link System
18x9 Fuel D558 Anza Wheels (Qty:5)
38/13.5R18 Toyo Open Country M/T (Qty:5)

The parts for the lift are about 10 days out yet. I'll be sure to post before and after pictures so everyone can see the difference. I'm really looking forward to it! Thanx again for all your advice!!!

Dang, 8" lift with 38" tires that's going to be a monster! That big of a tire will probably look better on a 18" rim 17" would look tiny!

Might also look to upgrade rotor's/brake pad's with larger rolling stock unless you don't mind replacing pad's every six month's to a year depending on type of driving.
Country boy's in my neck of the wood's throw on the larger tires/ wheel's and the truck's start eating brake pad's,rotor's due to increased weight.
I like Hawk super duty pad's over OEM .

2007 F 350, 5.4 litre,with cold air intake ,cat back dual exhaust, 410 gear's,six speed manual.

This is what an 18" rim and 38" tire looks like on a 8inch lift.

This is very true in the 1/2 ton trucks but I'd very much doubt that a super duty would even notice the bigger tires unless pulling, I've had to manually check that my trailer brakes weren't working with 20,000# + loads (stock f350). My old f150 (stock) with no trailer brakes even empty you knew as soon as you stepped on the fat peddle.

What gears dose your truck have? 3.73 and 38" tires aren't the best combo, 4.30 wold be the best stock gearing.

Ahh,fair point.
Most that I see are indeed 1/2 ton.

If the "Axle Ratio" is what you're referring to by asking about gearing, mine is 4.10. Do you think I'll have any issues with that? Thanx again.
