I started to install my Altman door latch system on my 55 f100. I can not get the inside door handle off. I have sprayed pb blaster and tried prying it off. Any ideas? Also do you have to remove the inside handle? Thanks for any information.
The inside handle has a spring loaded ring - push it away from the door - there is a pin holding the handle in place. Push the pin out and the handle can be removed. Kudos to Ilya for this knowledge.
You don't have to take it off, it connects to the arm on the Altman latch. I took mine off anyway just to inspect and make sure it was not too worn. The pin comes out with an 1/8" punch and hammer while holding the black spring loaded spacer ring away from the bottom of the handle.
I think you have the horseshoe clip on your 55. Not fun to deal with. Mid Fifties has a tool although you can manipulate it off with small screwdrivers/picks. Been too long since I did that to be more specific. I use the tool now that I have one.
if you indeed have the horseshoe clip, i bought one years ago at napa. maybe they still have them, they are great for removing and installing the clips.
Thanks for all the input. I got the door handle off today. It had a clip inside the handle. After I took it off I realized I could have left it on. But oh well. On to installing Altman latch system. Tomorrow I draw the outline and hopefully start cutting.

Take some pictures and post for us, thinking about this in the future. Tired of the door slam knocking my window rollers off.
