Noisy 4.9
This is on my 91 f150 with 199k
So I've heard these engines can be fairly noisy. This noise I am hearing almost sounds more like a valvetrain noise. BUT I could be wrong. Sometimes when I start the truck up it rattles (similar sounding to a 5.4 triton starting up, although I know this engine doesn't use a timing chain) and when the truck comes to an idle it has some clacking noise. It seems to do it more when I have fresh oil in the truck. When I rev the truck up the noise disappears. It doesn't get louder or faster (if that makes sense) when I let truck come back to an idle, she is quiet for a couple of seconds and the noise comes back. I believe on the EFI heads the valves aren't adjustable or am I wrong in saying that?
That being said I have been thinking about doing the chevy rocker swap on this engine maybe when those are adjusted to spec the noise will clear up?
Oh and the truck runs good besides that, slow as hell but seems to be normal for the 2.73 trucks
I took a video you can hear the noise around the 1:20 mark. Or you can start from the beginning and listen to me ramble on lol

"... the chevy rocker swap on this engine maybe when those are adjusted to spec the noise will clear up?"
1. The use of Chebby rockers works on stud mount heads but I don't think so on pedestal mount heads. Changing the rockers is a bit of a wishful stretch for curing the noise.
2. This might be a worn lifter problem. And it is not unusual to have a little noise on start-up from these engines.
