Cool Will Not Prime

I just brought a 1987 f250 with a 460 4 speed. Before I got it, it caught on fire but that really did not hurt it, it just burned some wires and vaccume lines, the cause of the fire was the P.O. hooked up the electric choke wrong.

Here is my problem: the truck will not prime, I tried pouring a little bit of gas in the carb over and over, nothing happened, and I took off the top of the carb and filled the fuel bowls two times and it ran for about 2 minutes each time I did so and it just will not prime, I have a clear in-line filter that remained empty the whole time. I looked at the fuel lines, there is no fuel pump on the side of the block, just the ones inside the tank. The front tank is empty but I put 10 gallons in the back tank because that is the only one that works, so what should I do. Is there any wireing/relays I should check, or should I replace the in-tank pump? I have been messing with it for awhile and am getting frustrated lol thank you in advance for any help..

Do not know what you mean by "the truck will not prime". It is not supposed to prime.

The fuel pumps are not going to run when you turn on the key like the FI trucks do.
The fuel pumps only run when the starter is cranking or the engine is running.

There is a power wire than comes from a small post ("I") on the starter relay (solenoid) on the passenger fender to power the fuel pumps while cranking.
The power for the pumps to run while the engine runs is through an fuel pump cutoff relay that is operated by an oil pressure switch on the top back of the engine. The power to the fuel pump cutoff relay common contact is from the Inertia switch and the Inertia switch gets its power from a fuse link at the starter relay battery side.

Either way the power then goes to the fuel pump selector switch on the dash of the truck.

You also have fuse links and fuses in this system along with a relay and they all must be good for the pumps to run. So it is time to get a loading test light and start checking for power along the way to the selected fuel pump.

Ok I'll look into all that today, and I should make myself more clear, the fuel pumps will not pump anything. Thanks a lot

When you go to test the system jumper the oil pressure switch and turn on the key and then you can check the system like if the engine was running.

Thank you, I tried all that, and the pump is getting the power it should when it should, I even hooked it up directly to my battery and it wouldnt work, I pulled the tank today and ordered a new unit, we'll see what happens
