Hum after shutdown.

My 2011 6.7 just started making a hum noise after shutdown. I've read that it might be the wastegate solenoid. Does anyone know if there's a TSB for this. My truck is tuned so hopefully my dealer will be tuner friendly. If not it can't be that expensive to buy the part.

Mine will make a humming noise followed by what almost sounds like a burp and then quiet. As far as I know this is the waste gate solenoid

I posted about this awhile back and everyone seems to believe it is a solenoid. Mine has been doing it for close to a year now. Runs for 30 seconds or so after shutting engine off. I have also noticed it during the engine running fyi. so far no problems to speak of with it however.

That was one of the noises that disappeared after I removed my EGR cooler. Just wasn't a thing ever again. Whether it's directly related or just a side effect I don't know.

I had the hum as well. I don't know if it was under a TSB, but I do believe it was the waste gate controller.

Waste gate solenoid.

To diagnose, press the brake pedal after you have shut down and the noise starts, if the sound stops it's the waste gate solenoid.

No service action is required or even suggested, they want us all to have to hear this.

As far as anyone has ever said, there's nothing wrong with it, nothing is defective or broken or wearing out. It just happens. Mines been doing it for at least 40,000 miles now.

Update.
I drove to Ford today and talked to the diesel mechanic. He listened to my truck hum after I shut it off. He agreed it was the waste gate control valve. I showed him the TSB (thanks Senix) and he was surprised that TSB had been issued. He told me he's seen the problem and that Ford did not recommend a fix. The dealer had the part in stock and will be fixing it next week. On a side note-I noticed a 6.7 getting a new engine. I asked about it and was told that there's been an issue with the motor seizing up. I've never heard that. He said that there's also been an issue with the glow plug dropping inside the motor and causing major damage. I was surprised to hear this. Especially since my truck is tuned.

there have been some valves dropped as well. Early on 2011's, mostly chassis models.

Not a common problem but enough that they did a fix for the valves.

more info

You might want to read my OP. Some good info including pictures and sound recordings for comparison. Mine was replaced under warranty, many since then have been refused. Here's the part from my original post:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post10309654

Make sure that your dealer is going to follow the TSB and you don't get caught in paying! I understand that Ford has issued an advisory telling dealerships to not replace the part. Ford now considers the noise 'normal'! D'oh!

Good luck, that damn noise is certainly annoying!

jammer

My 2012 F250 SD with 45300 miles is doing the same thing. A 30 second or so long loud hum/buzz after shut down. Called Leif Johnson Ford here in Austin, service advisor said he knows about the issue. Have appt. on Monday to bring it in with my TSB 13-10-7 in hand. IMO if a TSB is issued for a problem and they say its normal then why a TSB in the first place. Fix it Ford.

Thank you for the post .........
Mine has been doing this since 30K miles. I now am at 44K miles.
It seems to only do it if the engine is fully warmed up. (hot)

I assume this is covered under the 5yr/100,000 engine warranty right? Has anyone had this repair done to confirm?
