I checked on other forums and also spent some time trying to google it. No mention of this one. I listened to it a few more times and it does have an electronic tone to it. Like a transformer humming but on a smaller scale. Let us know if you can narrow down the location of the source.

Okay, here's an update.

The motorboat definately starts immediatly following the EGR closing noise.
Crawled into the hood yesterday, put my ear as close as possible, still cannont hear where the damn noise is originating from. Felt around for vibrations, nothing. Seems like the intake plumbing is amplifying/transmitting the noise all over the left side of the motor. Hmmmmm
Going to the dealer on Mon. If only I trusted these guys........

Interesting but not surprising. I have tried to track some of the weird sounds this truck makes and find out that I am on the wrong side of the exhaust pipe I have never owned a vehicle that makes this many different sounds.

Makes me nervous for you if they simply start tearing things apart.

Yeah, I'm really nervous. I'd much prefer to grab the service writer and tell him that xyz is giving off this noise after shutdown. I do NOT want the mechanic to start tearing the thing apart!!

rock and hard place, eh?

try to squeeze the black radiator tubing that is running from the raditor and see if the noise changes. Mine did the same noise, and its something in the coolant system. But after a few weeks it quit for me. its the tube that has the silver foil covering it.

@lexustbs
That is where the dual thermostats are; at first I thought the noise was originating from there, but this noise seems to be all over the left side of the motor. Did the noise return when you cycled the key without starting the motor? This noise will reoccur maybe 3 to 5 times without starting the motor. The darn thing always happens right after the EGR valve cycles (around 10 seconds after key off).

Wondering if it is a vacuum issue, just annoying as all get out.

Mine was like a spinning wheel inside of the radiator tube. If you squeezed the hose after the truck shuts off, it would change the speed of the clicking. I don't know about the cycling of the key. The truck made this noise 4 or 5 times, and never did it again.

Okay, new information; when the noise starts, a tap of the brake pedal silences the noise! Vacuum issue? Booster issue? Getting close to a solution.

Since you have an F250, you have vacuum assist brakes instead of the hydroboost.
Now that you know how to stop it each time, you have better information for your dealer appointment vs. a guess that it has something to do with some component between the two bumpers.

Definately a vacuum issue. Once I discovered the association with the brake booster, I can stop the noise by unplugging any of the vacuum lines that I can find.

Anyone out there have a diagram of the vacuum system for F250's?

I'm thinking there is a check valve on the vacuum line right at the vacuum pump. That would make sense and would keep the pumped down vacuum from bleeding off.

Seems that that check valve (if it exists) is having a conversation with the whole system. That conversation manifests itself as my 'motorboat noise' and is initiated by the EGR closing event which causes a 'burp' in the entire system.

Ahh, the joys of a new series of truck!

I really wish I could have a conversation with a Ford engineer that worked on the vacuum system on these trucks!
