I'm finally starting to rebuild the best vehicle I've ever owned, a 1968 Ford Ranger. I've owned this little girl for over twenty years, and she's due for it. Friends have suggested that I change the heads to a newer model on the 360 because my originals were not made to burn unleaded gas. Is this actually a must, or will it matter. Also, if anyone is up to date on VIN numbers I've got a question there too. Thanks to all replies.
I have a 1968 ford truck with a 360 as well as an original 1972 ford truck with a 360. The 1968 has been went through and had work done to the heads for unleaded gas. My 1972 has never been tinkered with at all, has about 140,000 original miles. To tell the truth I cant really tell the difference between the 2 as I run 93 octane in both of them.
I also have a restored 1969 Mach 1 with the 428 SCJ built back to factory specs. Now if you dont mix unleaded gas with racing gas in that car, YOU WILL KNOW!
Point being, no, I dont think it will make that much difference with your 360, but why not go ahead and have it built for unleaded just in case! Good luck!
