Pertronix Ignitor III Install problems

Pertronix Ignitor III Install problems
Thought I'd install my new Pertronix Ignitor III today and see how the ole Y-Block perks up.
Here's what I've got.
Here it is.
Now the problem begins. The instructions say to put the prong on the Ignitor III in the threaded Condenser hole. But there are two problems:
ONE
If you could install it the unit is in the way of the vacuum advance arm.
TWO
There's a bulge on the distributor plate that won't let the unit sit flat.
Anyone run across this problem?? Nothing is as easy as it seems

I had a problem with my 56 not fitting . Turned out it had a 57 distributor , both vacuum and mechanical advance . I called the company I bought it from , they exchanged it . Even though it was not their fault .

I had the same problem. Bought the Y block one only to find my distributor was a 57 or later. You can you the pertronix for the later Ford distributors and it will work.
Is your vacuum advance curved? If so you have a later distributor.

Here is the 71281 next to the original plate.
I do not have the vacuum installed here but that is what it looks like in the distributor you can see the curved arm right above the distributor body.

That's what my distributor looks like! I ordered a 71281 from Advance Auto for $95.34 tonight. Can't find the receipt for the 71282. Bought it about a year ago, just never got around to installing it or the new distributor.
How do you like it? I hope all this trouble is worth it

It is amazing and I love it. I drive my truck everyday and never had any trouble starting all winter, although it does not get too cold in WA.
I also bought the flamthrower III coil like what you have there I think.
I am happy and would buy again if needed.

Got the new 71281 yesterday, and installed it today. Piece of cake, Fired right up! Changed the cap & rotor as well. Took it out for a test run. WHAT A DIFFERENCE. 
Sorry I was so wrapped up in installing the stuff I forgot to take pictures but Jules photos are exactly how it looked.
Am in the process of trying to send my 71282 back.
