Good to know.....I don't want to mount to rocker. My '97 had the CARR single steps mounted that way with the bolts visible on rocker when you opened door. They would flex when stepped on.

Brad runs the Deezee tough steps which are the deezee ones that mount to the frame, is more than likely gonna be what i go with for my truck here soon.
here are a few pics of brads crews with em, sorry for postin pics of your rigs brad
Hey Brad. Nice rigs! Does DeeZee have any nerf bars that are wider than 3" and mount to frame? If my truck were 4X4 I would go with something more aggressive, but with 4X2, I'll stick with nerf bars or running board types.

when you say why, do you mean how deep is the step? I would assume the Westin bars are at least 3 inches in depth.

I'm referring to the diameter of the round tube. I should have said diameter to be more precise. I would like a wider step than the 3" tube provides.
It's a shame not much is available for these OBS trucks.
I may have to settle for a 3" tube nerf bar; at least it mounts to frame.
don't do it.the westin nurf bars,though they look good and are stainless so they wont rust,are just for appearance.had i been informed i would have just went with old school aluminum running boards (now i know better,it's back to those for log truck when the time comes.besides the 9th gen trucks,take this classic styling nicely anyway.)
as you can see,the two problems for functionality;
1.too high up to the cab.
2.to close into the cab.
both issues,leave you simply stepping over them and into the cab because it's so close to the cab,you might as well just step all the way in anyway and it's so close inward,you can't get your foot onto it comfortably either.
bottom line;the westin nurfs look good,but they go unused.
this camera angle actually makes them appear better than they are even for functionality.
fortunately for me,my setup is custom and iv got a "extra low sitting 4wd dually" (4wd f250 w/ tbb dually convert) so it's not the end of the world,but for log truck,even though that's 2wd it's greatly higher being the f450 (probably close to,if not the same as f350 4wd cab n chassis 4wd.)i wont make this mistake twice lol.
my uncle had the old man running boards on his 89 he used to have, now he has westins on the truck that replaced it in 02, the westins are so nasty, he has had them replaces by them 2 times and they still oxidize and get gross unbeleiveably quick, it doesnt even see salt!!!
The Westin bars are quality. I'm going for the Tough Steps soon. I'll start with the rear for the kids first. Mine isn't 4X4 but I like the look.
With those 33"s, you have the 4X4 look! My 4X2 has oem soized tires and I'm not sure those Tough Steps will look good on my truck? I just want a nice looking step for wife and kids that mounts to frame. Is that too much to ask!!
