I have a 352 out of a 1966 f250 which needs to be replaced or rebuilt. We have dearth of shops or talent that either can or will rebuild an engine as described. Anyone have suggestions for a quality shop in the upper midwest that can rebuild a 352 in a reasonable amount of time? I have begun to consider just purchasing a crate motor replacement for the engine. Any recommendations on sources to consider or stay way from? Finally, what engines are drop in replacements for the one i have taken out? Thanks for help on any and all points.
352 360 390 and all the other wonderful FE and FT engines all use one particular bellhouse pattern and no other motor will bolt on to this bellhouse.... these motors are kind of expensive if your trying to soup them up but if you are just returning to stock or warming them up there are many things you can do.... #1 headers these motors have the most notoriously crappy flowing stock exhaust manifolds ever developed and they gain quite a bit of power with this one bolt on.....#2 get a 4 bbl aluminum intake if you can find one reasonably priced they outflow and out perform the stock cast iron ones and by doing the swap you are lightening your engine by 60 lbs in the process....#3 new cam depending on what your wanting to do with this truck RV cam for more low end grunt and a muscle cam for more mid to high range fun.....with these simple mods you can make these old motors come alive sounding great and in some cases even make it get better gas mileage by freeing up the ponies under the hood.....but since this truck is an F250 it should have lower gears in the rear end and it will be a heavier truck so if your planning on making just a tough truck i would focus on the RV cam or if you don't wanna hassle with rebuilding this motor yourself or finding a local shop there are many companies that make long and short blocks but IMO i have always preferred these guys MABBCO® MOTORS, USA - Short Block, Automotive Motors, Marine Motors, Engine Kits, Crank Kits, Long Block and they are hard to beat on their prices the 390 is what most people normally replace their 352 and 360s with but its all up to you in the end good luck
