ok guys Im new to this forum and new to the manual world also so I just bought this 94 half ton with the 4.9 in it kinda just looked at it drove it around the block and it drove fine shifted fine all that so I snatched it up and drove it home the 55 miles let it set for a few days go to jump in it and I hear this grinding noise not to loud just though it was an old truck well drove it around for a while then it wont shift right then its shifts ok then back to not shifting right then I hear this loud growl took it home checked the fluid in the tranny and sure as shhhh put 3 quarts in it to fill up and its still doin the same problem any ideas would be helpful thanks
When you say it won't shift right, do you mean you can't get it to go into gear or it grinds going into gear? Or is it just "growling" as you're driving down the road? If it's hard going into gear, check the bushings at the clutch pedal, maybe they're worn out. Check to make sure that your firewall isn't flexing when you push in on the clutch. Check to make sure your master cylinder if full of fluid and not leaking anywhere.
it will go into gear then when u down shift If wont go back into gear until u stop doesnt grind goin into gear 1st gear grinds loud when in gear sometimes master is full also then when u push clutch in all grinding stops
