My 75supercab was running just above the C range all summer when I first got it and I never really gave it a thought. It had a shroud, supercooling radiator and never boiled antifreeze all over, but I then hooked up a mechanical set and saw that it runs 195 all day long even if it's zero outside and on hot days or pulling it would run 210-215.
I just ordered a gauge set from Summit to mount in the engine bay for this very reason.
If you're asked at what temp your truck runs, it's kinda hard to be serious and answer "well it doesn't quite get to the middle of the normal range".
What the H E double hockey sticks does that mean.
Or how much oil pressure do you run?
"Well it's way over to the right until it gets warm then it falls off to the middle"
While on the topic of the inaccuracy of ford gauges.. How normal is it for the factory oil pressure to bounce around in the "normal range"? A gauge pod is in the near future, but in the meantime I would like to know about what is acceptable from the factory.

If "bounce around" means slowly creep up or down based on RPM and operating temperature, then yes. If "bounce around" literally means bouncing around at a rapid rate, then no, not normal.

That is just what I needed, thank you! It just rises and drops depending on the engine rpm and temp. It doesn't erratically bounce like the speedo does. If it does start to get erratic then should I replace the oil pump or the gauge?
