oil leak help

I can't post the pics but it's under the motor on the passenger side, looks like fresh sludge leaking down, we're could it be coming from? And towards the rear of the oil pan it'd starting to come through from there. I have a 99 7.3, 273 k miles

Hose the whole pan area down and I can guarantee you it is the dipstick insert tube. (I Hope).

There is an oring on the tube that is as frail as your grandmas fingers. If you had Glow plugs or any valve train work done recently, that would help the story along in FTE.

Generally If it's pass side. Hose the pan off and SCRUB everything down. Simple green is your friend. Run it and look for a blood trail.

Let us know where the trail starts. We're here to help and learn.

PLEASE DON'T BE ONE OF THE "I have a problem" posters that don't tell the community of stroke bros what you found and fixed without a reach around.

Helps tons if you reply.

Let us know.

Thanx

Denny

Well, I know I'd start the hunt for the source in the valley of the engine. It could be from the dipstick oring, but I would think that would be obvious (it was on my truck anyway). Bright light looking into the valley should let you know if it is there. An alternative would be to put a UV dye in the oil and get a blacklight to hunt for the source. It WILL be obvious (the source).

I apologize up front for saying this brother strokers.....

I have been a member longer than most men can hold a job. That said, I am no expert on anything and I didn't engineer the 7.3. I have owned mine longer than most members have been.......well....members. I do know my rig intimately and am only trying to help another out by replying to a standing problem to give some ideas that I have experienced throughout my 7.3 marriage.

This forum is about problems and solutions. No eye poking or egotistic stabs are welcome when someone has a problem and they're asking for help.

As noted above, I only have 12 posts. Been a brother for 10 years.

If I chime in on any post, I have had the exact same problem and I point toward that idea for a solution. (I guess I've had 12 problems identical....RIGHT) ????

Just here to help as many of you have helped me.

Bottom line. If you have better advice, let the poor guy know. We don't need to be beating each other up with senseless innuendo that doesn't relate to an issue.

Hand Salute to all of you.

Let's get this forum back to what it should be.

Highest regards,

Denny

Denny, I think you may be misunderstanding Dan's intent. He was using the old E.F. Hutton investing commercials from the 1980's. The line was, "When EF Hutton speaks, people listen". I took it as a sign of respect for someone who doesn't post much, but has been around a long time and has hit the nail on the head with the probable solution. I could be way off here, but having interacted with Dan several times in the past, I do not think he was knocking you.
