49 Radiator

I use to see advertisements for a 1949 FOrd F1 radiator with shroud and fan often but was no where near needing one in the build process. Now that I need one wouldn't you no luck would have it I can't find one anywhere.

I know I will get beaten about the neck and head for my next statement but I wil take the beating because i need the help..... Anyone know where I can find the Radiator with fan and shroud set up for a 350 motor? Looking for radiator tha twill fit in original radiator support.

Here's one on ebay that will fit into your radiator saddle and will accept the AT cooling lines. I have this in my truck and I used a 1970 Torino lower radiator hose (cut down, took me quite a few hoses to find one that would fit properly).

I have a Howe Racing radiator (aluminum) for an F1 that is configured for a SBC engine...I got it from a fellow FTE'r who moved on from his project. I can check the part number if you are interested.

Looking for this setup with the shroud? How is your fan attached to the radiator?

Here is the original stock 1949 six cylinder radiator with original shroud, modified, and with the addition of an electric fan. The set up seems to keep the installed 350 cool. When running at road speed, I do not need the fan. I am running a large external transmission cooler to cool the 700R4 .

It's attached with these nylon ties. I've had people (on this forum) tell me that this will weaken the radiator core because of vibration but this is the second truck with this set up I've owned and I never had any troubles (and every street rod I've seen are attached the same way). You really only need a shroud if you're running a mechanical fan. Electric fans usually kick on while sitting idle and then they pull or push about 2000 cfm where a mechanical fan slows down at idle (when you need it the most). My fan is wired to work when the coolant temp sensor on the intake exceeds (about) 195 degrees, then it turns off at about 175 degrees. A new aluminum fan is also very efficient so under normal driving it stays cool without the fan, stop and go traffic kicks the fan on and off.
