Fuel injected 302 vs carberator 302 cam
So I have an 85 f150 302 efi and had a bad block and swapped the block with a 83 and used all of my efi stuff on the top side. The motor is in and runs like sh** and I have determined that the cam is different in the efi motors and the carb motors. I'm still getting spark and fuel at the right time (for the truck) but my valves are opening like it is carb. The firing order is different between the two motors. Is there anything I can do besides swapping the cam with an efi cam? Any help is appreciated. Needless to say I've learned a big lesson already. Just trying to fix it the easiest way possible. Thanks.

All 289's and regular 302's up though till they quit making them had the same firing order. The HO 302's found in mustangs(and possibly a few others) had the different 351w firing order.
It can go either way, if you have a 351w type cam in your engine it will need to have the 351w firing order. The only thing you need to do is swap the order of the sparkplug wires around. I will tell you though, it won't run if you have the wrong firing order. If you have it running, you must have the firing order correct, or mostly correct.
What codes are you getting?

I was referring specifically to the 302/5.0 in Bullnose (1980 - 1986 F-Series) trucks.
Starting in 1982, the 5.0 H.O. Mustangs used a 1973 351 Torino marine cam and used the 351 firing order. 1994 and up F-Series with the 302/5.0 used a roller block and cam with the 351 firing order.
289 and standard 302/5.0 firing order: 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8
* 1979 and earlier 5.0L
* 1979-1993 truck 302/5.0L
* Base (non-H.O.) passenger car 5.0L
* 1980-1982 4.2L V8's
5.0 H.O./351 firing order: 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8
* 1982 and later H.O. & GT-40 5.0L
* 1994 and later truck 302/5.0L
* 351/5.8L
* 460
Like Franklin said, you can use a 351 cam in a 302 and vice versa, but you must use the firing order to match the cam.
