I'm building up a 302 for my 67 F-100. The plan is to put an EFI system off of a HO mustang. I recently got my hands on an engine, but it's out of a 1973 bronco. Will a 90 EFI system work on a 73 block?
And what is the diffrence between the 85 and earlier blocks as opposed to the 86 and newer blocks? That seems to be the change date...
Can anyone help?
Not sure when they went to the roller blocks (90's), but I believe the Mustangs had them earlier than the trucks.
I also believe the '86 block is the only year that differs because it had flat top pistons, no others did. Not sure of any other changes.
Sorry I couldn't be of any more help.
yes the efi system will work on any 302 other than a boss 302.
The change in 86 was to efi, and to a roller cam in the mustangs.
The roller setup will go into any 302 block, so there really is no changes for the roller cam.
However,in 82 they went to one piece rear main seal.
Yeah... I knew that. No really. I did. Maybe I just forgot. Well ok, I'll admit it... I've been working on my Windsor so much lately it's the only firing order I can see... and I mean I see it everywhere.

Silly question though. If the cam has the wrong firing order, wont the crank as well?
Nope, because it just changes the order of when the power stroke is.
My BII has a 86 302, with a 351 cam in it, I all I had to do is change the order of the spark plugs.
You cannot just "swap" a roller cam and lifters into a pre roller block. The lifter bores on the roller block are taller to accomodate the taller lifters. To use a roller cam in a non-roller block you can either use a reduced base circle cam and the factory roller lifter setup or a factory roller cam with special link-bar roller lifters ( I think Crane makes these) You can use the EFI setup with your 73 motor if you get the setup from a non-HO motor such as a Crown-Vic or pickup or T-Bird. The roller cams were first installled in Stangs and Lincolns in 1985
Allright. Would I be able to use the mustang setup I have (Upper and lower intake, injectors, rail, harness and sensors) but ecxhange the computer for one from a t-bird or crown vic?
As far as I know the Stang and the Crown Vic/T-bird setup are the same except for the computer. I had one off of an 88 Crown Vic and it was virtually identical to the Stang upper/lower except for the upper was reversed in relation to the Stangs. So yes, I think all you'll need is to get a Crown Vic/T-Bird computer. Then after you get it running, you'll have to make sure the air/fuel ratio is Ok to prevent a too rich/ lean conditon.
