Got a question on the average worth of a 93- 4.0L out of a explorer w/ 70K miles on it. It looks good to me. What should I spend for it, or what is a fair price?
Also, I know this isn't really "Truck" related, BUT the intended home for this 4.0L, should I decide to get it, will be a 21 foot, whitewater, Jet Boat application. I have a 4.0L in Mammas Aerostar & It's run great for 200K miles with 1 MAFS, 1 starter & 2 sets of Autolite Platnum plugs + PM service .
I run 460's & 351Ws & 5.0Ls in other stuff. But I have not seen a 4.0L Powered Jet Boat yet, they mostly are 351W/ 460powered or Brand X, orange replacement engines.
Another thing to keep in mind about the Ford 4.0L OHV engine is that it's for all intents and purposes a low-mid range torque designed engine, and that's where it really shines (which of course makes it great for trucks)....it's not necessarily known as a high-revving type.
On the other hand, the newer Ford 4.0L SOHC is probably better suited for higher-rev applications since it is actually designed to put out a little better at higher rpms.
Thanks for the Info. I'm pretty familiar with the 4.0L P-rod Eng since we've had one for years of trouble free use & service out of it. It seems not to do anything wrong.
Also I've been looking at several makes of "Jet Propulsion Drive Units" for Marine applications and they're all over the board in a lot of different ways/areas. It's all relative, but It seems to be the units turning 750 to 3500 RPM are the optimal for what I want to do. I can slow cruise [walk speed] or "Rip It" 65+knots. That is right in the reange a 4.0L seems to favor & is one reason I considered the 4.0L P-rod engine to begin with.
It's all relative at this point but seems like a plausible set up.
Thanx again for your input I appreciate it! FBp
got 236,000 out of mine before I replaced it it still runs the one thing to look for thought is the intake gasket leaking oil/water out of it both of mine did $165 to fix this problem cause you need to replace the head gaskets when you replace the intake gasket on these motors trust me I didn't and had to re do it!
