Holley's 350cfm 2-barrel is a direct bolt on but the venturis are a bit largish for low end power. Also it'll ruin the stock emissions as it doesn't have a throttle position sensor or mixture solenoid like the original stock carb. Which will throw the EEC-IV computer into a tizzy.
If you're not worried about having to go through emissions inspections, the best option would be to remove the EEC-IV and TFI distributor and install a DuraSpark Ignition from an earlier 2.8 like say from a Pinto or Mustang II. Then you could run the Holley, an earlier stock 2150 without the electronic controls. The 1.08 marked ones run about 280cfm and the 1.21 marked ones are 350cfm units. The smaller ones have a better low end although the 350cfm carbs would make more power on the top end. Also, Offenhauser makes a 4-barrel manifold for this engine and the Holley 390cfm 4-barrel is also an excellant choice for the 2.8.
FWIW, I'm getting my ducks in a row for a DuraSpark conversion to my '85 BII (a bit more complicated than the 83-84). I'm looking at an earlier 2150 with the 280cfm venturis as I'm trying to keep my low end power rather than going for the upper end. Although once I save enough of my pennies and nickels, I'm going to go the Offy/390 4-barrel eventually.
Well me and my friend got the motor running again and it smokes abit of blue and some of the plugs are getting oil on them but it runs real smooth and has good power (I suppose for a little motor.) Anyway got any ideas of whats wrong with it. It has been sitting for 8 years. His dad thinks it's valves seals.
