Break Question

Hello guys I recently found out my passenger rear brake cylinder is leaking, causing a soft\squishy pedal. I've read , and everyone says I will most likely break off the brake line trying to remove it. Right now I don't have the time\money to run new break line. Can I just clamp off that one side, TEMPORARILY, until I can get it fixed, or is this just a terrible idea? Thanks,
Ryan

Terrible idea.

For the sake of us other drivers on the road please do not do this. If you hurt yourself its one thing. If you kill someone else to save a few bucks its another.

Park the truck until you can afford a $20 brake line...

How rusty is the line and fitting? If you know how to use a torch, water, and PB Blaster you have a good chance of getting it apart. Line wrenches are an absolute must.

And agreed. Your truck has 4 brakes for a reason. You cant clamp off one side in the rear since it's a steel line to each wheel cylinder, the only "clamp point" is the hose, in which case you would have NO rear brakes at ALL!

Do you know if I can replace the cylinder without disassembling all of the rear brakes?

Have a torch ready, trust me. Rinse off the PB blaster, heat the fitting with a torch until it glows, (not the line, the fitting), and hit it with water. Re-heat, water. Do this a few times, then after the final rinse spray some PB on it. This "shock" technique has been used for decades and works almost every time. Don't use a regular open end wrench, otherwise the odds of rounding the fitting off increase.
