I have a 1990 F250 with the international 7.3 and a rebuilt e4OD. Or at least that's what I was told. It shifts rough between 2-3rd gear, and experiences torque converter chatter if given too much gas while in 3rd gear. I heard this is a common problem. So I went down to napa, bought me a bottle of Lucas stop slip, and added the whole bottle to the tranny fluid, "as directed". It said to "add to existing tranny fluid". Well that didn't help much, rather than make things worse if I had to say, but I check the transmission fluid just now, and it's way too high. Probably an inch or two past the full in the crosshairs. This was after me running it a couple days. Should I drain tranny fluid??? Need some helps guys cuz this is going to be a daily driver for awhile
Your transmission problem is probably just wear and tear and signs of a rebuild in the coming times. As far as the problems getting worse, you want those fluids to be at the factory settings. No problem is going to come with you draining the trans fluid and replacing it with new. The great thing is, if you're going to do that, throw in a filter and other wear and tear parts (search the forum). E4ODs wear out, it's the nature of an underengineered tranny, but I think you'll be alright for quite a decent time. My transmission ( granted with a 4.9l ) made it several years while hardshifting and slipping between gears.
