E-brake sticking??

So I have a 93 F250 7.3 with a 5-SPD. Recently it feels like I've been driving around with my E-brake set. It takes higher rpms to get the truck going from a stop and feels slightly more gutless than usual. Im wondering if my Ebrake cable is stuck even though my pedal is out? What are some possible explanations?

Thanks guys

yup could be a brake drag problem id jack up each wheel and try to spin it by hand while in neutrel . if it spins easy get someone to press and release the brake pedal, as soon as the pedel is released the wheel should spin freely iv seen a few slow to release due to pinched flex line. could also be e brake dragging ( seized cables) or i have seen a few with the sheathing on the cable that rusts and pulls the cable on itself . may also want to pull the wheels and do a brake inspection .

u could also have a engine power problem but id think you would knotice a difference in idle quality ?

x 2 ... if just one wheel is dragging you will be able to tell which side it is by touching it with your hand after a short drive. it will be hot.

Im having trouble getting the drum off my hub assembly. I had considerable trouble getting the lugs loose. I ended up spraying it with Wd-40 and used a cheater bar to break them loose. Now I cant get the drum off. Its completly seized onto the hub. no movement at all. I jacked it up (the left rear) and cant get the hub to turn in neutral either. Ive tried breaking it loose with a hammer but so far no good..

Any suggestions or comments welcome,
Thanks

Loosen the brake adjuster star wheel. You can access it from the back side of the brake backing plate. Here is a shot from the front side, reference the small star wheel on the bottom of the brake shoes:

If it is a frozen e-brake cable, smack it a few times with a mallet to see if the inner cable will break loose from the sheath.

Hey thanks I was able to loosen the star nut on each drum. I had to use a torch to heat them up enough to get them off. after some testing it is definitely the e brake sticking. it appears that after release, the pads don't want to return to their original position. Im thinking I should just replace all of the springs and maybe the shoes and cables... Im wondering what length of cable to order and also about the shoe size. are they the 2.5" or 3"?? I'll be ordering through RockAuto online for anyone who wants to check out their options (endless)..

Thanks for the help so far

not sure what you mean by the length of cable ... they are pre-made for your particulal model ... just enter the pertinent details and you should get the right part. as for whether they are 2 1/2" or 3" wide ... a tape measure will provide the answer.
