I'm not sure about the computer controls, I know the 96 has OBDII and yours has OBDI for that we will need to wait for a person that understands the transmission interface with the computer. but mechanically it should go if you can change the Bell housing.
The bellhousing on the E4OD is integral to the case - you can't just swap the bellhousing as you say. The diesel trans will not bolt up to the 302 you have.
I would check and see if the 95 E4OD is either speedometer driven or is computer control from the speed sensor in the rear end. Other than that the shift linkage may chage fron linkage to cable....bolt pattern on bell housing....torgue converter to flex plate bolts.... Main thing is how the trans reads speed to shift properly
It is not a swap. Like jas88 said, the diesel trans will not bolt up to the 300/302/351w engines. The bellhousing is part of the auto trans case casting and short of swapping the internals into your case, it's not gonna work. The 95/96 e4od, if I'm not mistaken, uses a different pigtail connector for the electronic transmission functions and the VSS is located on the rear end. The electrical connections could be changed but the bellhousing bolt pattern would require an adapter if one exists. It's probably easier to find the right trans for your truck (e4od from 300/302/351w) than to fool around with adapting a diesel trans to a gas engine.
